- Bio: Marc Borg Borchers, a bright, witty, kind, generous gentleman for all seasons passed away on December 15, 2018. Born of Margaret and Dr. Raymond Borchers in Omaha, Nebraska, Marc was raised in Lincoln, Nebraska with his brother Philip (who married Debbie) and his sister Sonja Breen, both of Pueblo, Colorado.
- Educated at the University of Nebraska, University of Kentucky, and the University of South Florida, Marc began his long love affair with education. He taught first at the University of South Florida, then at Hillsborough Community College. He had a 35 year rewarding career teaching mathematics and business. As Carlos Soto, Campus President-Brandon wrote in the ANNUAL REPORT 2003 - 2004, Marc "was here when his unit was a one-person operation and classes were held in portable second-hand buildings... One thing that has not changed, however is his unrivaled sense of humor. More importantly Marc has a dedication to his students, colleagues and college that is legendary. And I think he would agree with Denis Waitley in that 'The greatest achievements are those that benefit others.' " Marc retired in 2006 among celebration, with colleagues, friends and family. He kept in touch with many as he liked to meet and enjoy their company.
- Marc loved history and in particular, preserving American History. He traveled extensively through the United States skillfully following early maps of mining towns, settler's trails and harbor towns. As he traveled he searched for artifacts, antiques, oddities, collector's items and old tools. He appreciated the lore of handmade tools and passed it on to the curious. Marc was a long-time member of the Mid-western Tool Association. He would spend hours in his workshop restoring and/or researching his finds.
- Marc was an avid reader and could have two or three books going at a time. He particularly chose historical novels, those involving the the development of cultures and moral ethics. He also read favorite science fiction novels to further tempt his curiosity and creativity. His love for books developed over years while his personal collection expanded.
- Marc was a proud uncle when his nephew Nathaniel Borchers of Portland, Oregon married Crystal and when their children, Lincoln and Denley, were born. He loved summers of fun with his grandchildren, Ethan and Sydney Burdette, both of Lexington, KY, the children of step-son, Keith Burdette. Keith married Karen and increased Marc's love of grandchildren, adding T.J., Tommy and Trinity Keck.
- Marc had a long journey through the relentless, brutal passages of vascular dementia with Alzheimer's Disease. His loving companion and devoted life partner, Babs Cabot, was at his side. It took six rugged years for our Marc to have graceful peace. Marc's family is very grateful to those who helped and cared for him: The Care Patrol Tampa, Cloverdale ALF Family, Bluestone Physicians Services, Life Path Hospice Teal Team, Dr. Dennis, Ellen, Jenny and Lauren Laffer, Father David Gierlach and all of those who supported our family through care, prayer and love. Our family will gather privately at a later time to celebrate Marc's Life. Rest in peace, our Beloved.
