- Bio: Nels P. Paulson, 85, former Ames man, died April 16 at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Alice Bargman, in Des Moines. He had been in ill health for about four years.Born in Denmark to Nels and Stena Paulson. When he was a small child, in 1879, the family came to the United States and settled on a farm near Jewell.He and Catherine Hansen were married Feb. 20, 1901. He retired as a farmer in 1945 and came to Ames. Survivors include three son, Franklin and Harris, both of Ames and Donald of Albert Lea, Minn.; three daughters, Mrs. Florence Bergeson of Ames and Mrs. Bargman and Mrs. Neah Mae Frank both of Des Moines; a brother, Henry and two sisters, Miss Neah Paulson and Mrs. Mary Nelson, all of Story City; 15 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, three sisters: Mrs. Christine Wayman, Mrs. Lena Ruillard and Mrs. Elsie Larsen and three brothers: Pete, John and Cris.He was a member of the Evangelical United Brethren Church and the Danish Brotherhood. The Rev. E. E. Peters of the Evangelical United Brethren Church officiated at his service. Burial was in the Ames Municipal Cemetery.[one source: From Ames Daily Tribune May 3, 1962]
