- Bio: Debra Ann Schulte, 54, of Redfield, SD died
peacefully on January 25, 2010 at MeritCare
Hospital in Fargo, ND of brain cancer. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, January 29, 2010 at 1:30 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Yankton, SD. Fr. Bob Lacey will celebrate the Mass. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Yankton. Pallbearers will be David Aune, Jim DeLozier, Charlie Larsen, Jason Larsen, Dean Lippert, and Larry Schulte.
- Visitation will be Thursday from 1-4:00 p.m. at Thelen Funeral Home in Redfield with a rosary and scriptural wake service at 5:00 pm at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Redfield. Visitation will continue until 8:00 pm at the church in Redfield and then one hour prior to the funeral service at the church in Yankton on Friday.
- Debra Ann Schulte was born April, 5th, 1955 in Yankton, SD to Wayne & Dolores (Sylliaasen) Schulte Ahern.
- She attended Yankton Public School and graduated from high school in Yankton in 1973. She attended college at the University of Colorado in Greeley, CO where she earned her
Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education in 1977. Her teaching career began in Wood, SD. She earned her Master of Arts majoring in Speial Education at the University of South Dakota in Vermillion in 1987. The summer of 1987 she and her daughter, Marissa moved to Redfield, SD.
- She began teaching at the Redfield Public School where she has touched the lives of many children the past 23 years. Her passion was teaching kindergarten and she had a special place in her heart for children in special education. Debra enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, scrapbooking, and quilting. She especially loved spending time with her granddaughter, Charisma. She spent time volunteering as a Modern Woodmen leader, Girl Scout leader and at the Good Samaritan Center.
- Debra is survived by: her daughter, Marissa
Schulte of Fargo, ND; Granddaughter: Charisma Schulte of Fargo, ND; stepsisters: Mary Ann (Ron) Gerk of Lakeville, MN, and Pat (Randy) Koster of Mesa, AZ; Stepbrother, Jim (Tudy) Ahern of Phoenix, AZ; and her mother, Dolores (Dory) Ahern of Yankton, SD.
- She was preceded in death by her father,
Wayne Schulte; stepfather, Russ Ahern; maternal grandparents, Alice and James Sylliaasen;
and paternal grandparents Lewis and Lena Schulte.
- The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations will be accepted and put toward an academic scholarship in memory of Debra Ann Schulte.
