      will be held Friday, November 29th at Willamette National Cemetery for Paul D. Ylvisaker, Sr., who died November 24, 2002 from complications related to leukemia. Paul was born May 21, 1926 in Houston, MN and moved with his family to the Pacific Northwest in the 1930's. After serving in the U.S.
    • Navy during WWII he graduated from Washington State University in 1951 and then received the Certificate of Physical Therapy from Stanford University in 1952. He was the first self-employed physical therapist in the Portland area, opening his office in Northwest Portland in 1960. He retired from private practice in 1988 but continued to practice physical therapy in nursing homes and clinics until 2001. While attending Washington State, Paul was a member of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity. He continued his affiliation with the university by serving as a member of the board of directors of the WSU Alumni Association and was a past president of the Columbia River Cougar Club. He also was active in the formation of the Private Practice Section of the American Physical Therapy Association in the 1960's. Paul married Beverly Grace Wells on December 29, 1951.
    • In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter Heather Ylvisaker of Portland; sons, Donn and Paul Jr. of Portland, and Mark of Medford; sister Doris Fidler of Seattle, WA; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a nephew; and several cousins.
    • The family suggests remembrances be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society or the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation. A celebration of Paul's life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 25, 2003 at the Fairway Village Recreation Center in Vancouver, WA.
