      Britton - The funeral for Clarence Hartman will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 16, 2006, at the First Presbyterian Church, Britton, with Rev. Kris Mutzenberger officiating. Burial will be in the Britton Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Friday at the Price Funeral Chapel, Britton, and one hour preceding the funeral.
    • Clarence died Sept. 13 at Wheatcrest Hills in Britton at the age of 88.
    • Clarence Edward Hartman was born Aug. 21, 1918, at Britton, S.D., to Charles and Elsie (Wilgers) Hartman. He attended Waverly School, graduated from Britton High School in 1937, and began farming.
    • On Sept. 26, 1941, he married Millie Irene Anderson, and they made their home southeast of Britton, until moving to town in 1974.
    • Clarence served as County Committeeman and Chairman for the A.S.C. office, and also helped Irene in the operation of their Bed-and-Breakfast business in Britton.
    • Irene died Jan. 30, 1996, and Clarence continued to make his home in Britton.
    • Clarence was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Britton for 74 years, and had served as an Elder, Deacon, and various other positions within the church. He was a member of the Waverly Township Board for 20 years, Past-Noble Grand of the I.O.O.F. Lodge and volunteered his services at the Fun After Fifty Club. He and Irene were instrumental in starting the Senior Nutrition Program in Britton, and were volunteers for Meals-on-Wheels.
    • His hobbies included playing cards, shooting pool, pitching horseshoes and collecting caps. He was kind, patient and good-natured.
    • His survivors include three daughters, Karen (Harlan) Olson, Langford, Charlotte (Larry) Tunnell, Dallas, Texas, Millie Ann (Joe) Strang, Grand Forks, N.D.; seven grandchildren, Brent (Lisa) Olson, Stuart Olson, Gregory (Tamara) Uhrich, Lisa (Scott) Nance, Alan (Kristi) Strang, Millisa (Lucas) Teigen, Joseph Clarence (JC) Strang; seven great-grandchildren, Blake and Malee Olson, Natasha and Katya Uhrich, Madalynn and Davis Nance, Kelsey Strang; one sister; a niece and a nephew.
    • He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and one great-grandson, John Paul Nance.
    • Dorthy Jones will be the organist, and Clarence's grandchildren will serve as casketbearers.
