- Bio: It is with great sorrow that we say good bye on this earth to John Brewster Lee, age 89, of Ithaca, New York. He passed away peacefully in his sleep on June 30, 2017.
John was born to Ellicott and Nina (Woolsey) Lee on August 23, 1927. He grew up on a farm and learned to work hard early on, and developed his sense of humor along the way. Humor was important in a house full of nine children! He graduated from Warren Center High school in 1945; then went on to join the Navy- proudly served his country during the Korean War era, traveling all over the world for eight years. Work was second nature to John, and he did not fully retire until in his 80's.
He was father to seven children who loved him to the hilt. His faith was paramount in his life and his Bible was very important to him. Two things he was never without for very long; his sense of humor and his harmonica. Anyone who knew John expected a joke with every encounter. He was an avid Yankees fan. Go Yankees!
He took great joy in his family. Loved each sibling, child, grandchild and great-grandchild "like the dickens". He may not have not seen them all, but deeply cherished the pictures and stories about each one. He will be sorely missed but never forgotten. "A merry heart doeth good like medicine" Proverbs 17:22 (dad's theme verse). We can't help but smile to have known him!
He is survived by his wife, Emalu (Mespell) Lee-; whom he loved for over 60 years; Sisters: Barbara Scott, and Betty Bilcik; Children: Dan Lee (Sheila Corrigan), Laurie (Warren) Plymale, Christine (Gene) Tollini, Heidi (Bill) Fern, Eric Lee (Carrie Sawyer), Jodie (Tom) Whittle, and Cory Lee (Digna Martin Lee); as well as 19 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ellicott Lee; mother Nina Lee; brothers: Ellicott Lee, Jr, Mark Lee, and Bryce Lee; sisters: Daisy Miele (Lee), Myrtle Stone (Lee), and Lois Lee.
