- Howard "Butch" Murphy, age 83, of Cando, ND passed away on Saturday, March 23, 3013 at the Towner County Living Center, Cando, ND.
- Funeral services were held at 11am on Thursday, March 28, 2013 at Elick Funeral Home, Rolla, ND with Pastor Mark Kolbo officiating.
- Burial was at the Sarles Cemetery, Sarles, ND.
- Urn bearers were all nieces and nephews. Homorary bearers were all family and friends.
- Howard Clarence "Butch" Murphy was born on February 11, 1930 to Harold L. and Clara (Christofferson) Murphy in Bisbee, ND. Butch lived most of his life in the Sarles Area, working with his family on the farm.
- In 1989, he moved with his brother, Harold, to Rolla. While living in Rolla, he enjoyed helping out at the St. John Senior Center and made many good friends in the area. During the summers, he would help his brother, Ralph "Buzz" in Sarles with farm work. He eventually moved to Sarles and lived with his brother and family until Buzz passed away in 2004. He then moved into the assisted living center in Rolla, living there several years before retiring in the Towner County Living Center.
- Throughout his life, Butch enjoyed working on the farm, doing volunteer work at the St. John Senior Center, playing cards, going to Bingo, and sharing in his families activities and gatherings.
- Survivors include three brothers, Gilmore L. Murphy of Bella Vista, AR, Francis Joe Murphy of Rolla, and Harold Glenn Murphy of Gwinner; and many nieces, nephews, and good friends.
- Preceding him in death are his parents, Harold and Clara, and a younger brother, Ralph "Buzz" Murphy.
