- Bio: Langford - The funeral for Hazel Hanson of Langford, a longtime resident of Butler, S.D., will be Saturday, Dec. 23, 2006, at the Butler Lutheran Church with Rev. Daniel Overbo officiating. Burial will be in the Ebenezer Cemetery of Butler. Visitation at the Price Funeral Chapel, Britton.
- Mrs. Hanson died Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2006, at Wheatcrest Hills of Britton at the age of 88.
- Hazel Carine Nelson was born May 24, 1918, on the family homestead east of Butler, S.D. to Nels and Anna (Kvan) Nelson. She was baptized and confirmed at the Ebenezer Church. She attended Butler Township Rural District #116 and graduated from Butler High School in 1936. For nine months she attended Northern Normal and taught in the rural schools of Day County for nine years.
- Hazel married Erwin Hanson of Langford on Feb. 4, 1945, at the Lily Lutheran Parsonage. They farmed the home farm for 29 years. She then worked at the Bains CafŽ in Webster for three years. They moved to Langford in 1994. Erwin died on Nov. 23, 1995, and Hazel continued to make her home in Langford.
Hazel was a member of the Butler Lutheran Church and Butler WELCA. She also belonged to the Langford Senior Center, and the Retired Teachers Association of Britton.
- Survivors include two sons: Claire (Marlene) Hanson of Langford and Larry Hanson of Roslyn; six grandchildren: Troy Hanson, Stacey Hanson, Lori Larsen, Bonnie (Doug) Stolsmark, all of Langford; Jerry Hanson of Watertown and Billie (Tim) Ronshaugen of Pierpont; five great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandsons; a sister-in-law: Anna Jean (Ralph) Foote of Langford; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
- She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, an infant brother, and a grandson.
- Casketbearers will be Lance Hanson, Neil Foote, Larry Herr, Jerry Anderson, Maynard Whitmeyer and Marvin Berry.
