- Bio: Reona C. Hodge, 87, widow of former Mayor William M. Hodge Sr. died Saturday, May 22, 2004, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.
- Born in Platte County, Neb., she was the daughter of the late Lawrence Christensen and the late Pearl Evans Christensen.
- Mrs. Hodge attended school in Newman Grove, Neb., and taught in the rural schools of Madison County. She graduated from the Lutheran Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing in Minneapolis. She became part of the 26th General Hospital, which went overseas during World War II to North Africa and Italy. Mrs. Hodge was married in Bari, Italy, where she served with the 26th General Hospital with her husband until the end of the war.
- She was organist for Pitts Presbyterian Church for more than 10 years before becoming a member of Grace Baptist Church. Mrs. Hodge had great interest in missions and was Woman's Missionary Union director several years, making numerous trips to Jamaica, Venezuela, Puerto Rico and Brazil. She enjoyed gardening and served as president of the Iris Garden Club.
- Surviving are three sons, William Miles Hodge Jr. of Sumter, Lawrence Thomas Hodge of Hilton Head Island, Joel Padgett Hodge of Sumter; four daughters, Patricia H. Croft of Sumter, Joanne H. Greer of Lorton, Va., Katherine H. Bledsoe of Aiken, and Eva Marie H. Reynolds of Hendersonville, N.C.; a sister, JoAnne Steele of Harlington, Texas; a nephew, Larry Christensen of Sumter; 16 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
- Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at Grace Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. James Chandler and the Rev. Steve Shumake officiating.
- Burial will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.
- Grandsons will serve as pallbearers, Carl Vincent Croft, William Hodge Croft, Brian Padgett Hodge, John Hicks Greer Jr., William Miles Hodge III, and Thomas McNair Bledsoe and William Matthew Bledsoe, currently serving with the armed services in Iraq.
- Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Alderman Sunday School Class.
