- Bio: Birth date and Country provided by National Orphan Train Complex (48806273), who also added the following:Herman was the son of Peter Pfeifer and Katharina Luise Thomas. They immigrated to the United States in 1882 and had two more children in New York, Annie and Treet. It is unknown what happened to Peter and Kati, but Herman was on an Orphan Train to Olathe, KS on December 11, 1896. He graduated from Minneapolis, KS High School in 1903 and went on to attend the University of Kansas, working his way through. He graduated with a degree in education in 1907. Herman moved to Washington in about 1910. His first wife was a young widow named Mary (Nous) Thompson. After her death, married again to Grace M. Sabbe. Grace died in 1940. Gertrude Sisler was Herman's third wife. Herman had a deep love of learning and continued to attend classes when he wasn't teaching or acting as school principal or superintendent
